I read all the reviews before I purchased this blender and have to say they were spot on. I found the only thing that could have used some improvement was the flimsy base. Why would you cheap out on a plastic base??? Other than that its a great blender for the price.

I love this blender! I make smoothies everyday with frozen strawberries, bananas, protein powder and juice and this blender does an amazing job. I was ready to throw our old blender out the window because it was so incredibly loud. I had to wear ear plugs. This new one is quiet and mixes everything up without leaving protein powder stuck in clumps to the side of the jar!

Only mixes thin liquids well. Will NOT do ice creme shakes without much pushing of ice creme down dangerously near mixing blade. Smooth top mix blade will not do shakes either. Tends to leak since very very easy to thread it wrong when putting bottom on so it looks fine but is cross threaded though it went on smoothly but now LEAKS! Have had to clean up many many times. Finally threw mine out. Glass finally cracked when tightened well enough to not leak. Throat of mix glass is too big to let ice cream in.

Nice blender I think.. Seems to have lots of settings, speeds, etc., and does a fine job in mixing drinks with ice! I'd seen the recommendation from Cooks Magazine, and though this model is not the one

mentioned, I think it's close enough. I got the stainless base, and only wish it had been in brushed nickel and not so shiny. However, I do like the heavy glass, and the ease of selecting the speed. My only complaint, though minor, is that the lid seems mighty flimsly compared to the rest of the machine. I'd suggest NOT to fill too full with liquids and start at the highest speed, as it will leak and spurt around the lid on top. Start slow, and then increase the speed.

We haven't had this blender very long, but it seems to really make great smoothies. Blows the doors off our old one, which was a Braun powermax. It is a bit loud, but I've never expected to own a quiet blender. The all metal drive system feels very sturdy. The plastic components on the Braun one broke a couple of times. Overall, the thing does what it's supposed to do, and does it much better than I expected.

Look around the net and you will find quickly that the blender is garbage and has a VERY high failure rate where the blade connect to the motor. Mine broke once, got a new blender...broke a 2nd time and was sent a cheap walmart model to replace it (they're not shipping original model any longer due to the defective design).

Too late if you bought one, but not too late to buy another brand...this is NOT a professional blender...it is a very cheap plastic mechanism housed in a cast metal box....don't be fooled like I was...
(sorry for the rant, but after having them send a $39 dollar replacement for my $130 'professional' blender, I'm a little hot)

Model # PST2. Looks the same as the BPST02-B and was sold as the Prof Blender 2 months ago. Great Blender till the bottom came off. I can grind grain w/ it up to a point (then I sift it and grind the large parts again). Grinds spices very well (all spice, cinnamon sticks and smaller spices). Makes great smoothies. Malts are better w/ the shake attachment which is sold separately.

About the bottom: The black plastic bottom's threads seem to have worn out. I've had the blender almost 2 months. The bottom just keeps turning and doesn't grip the glass base tight enough to hold it on. The last smoothie I made ended up all over the counter when I lifted the jar off the blender and the plastic bottom remained behind.

I've e-mailed Oyster. I'll update when I receive a reply.

4 hours later: No need to update at a later date. Their Customer Service Dept has already responded. A replacement bottom is on its way to my house. That's CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Didn't have any problems with this blender, but I haven't used it much. I guess I am not too into smoothies. Very VERY loud though. Scares the crap out of me everytime I use it, but it blends everything I have put into it. Comes with some interesting recipes that might be worth trying! Good buy!

I bought this blender to make frozen drinks (margaritas, daiquiris, etc.). Generally, the blender performs very well. The only problem I've encountered with blending is that if there is not enough free liquid (too much frozen fruit or ice), then no rotation occurs and you have to add liquid (water or mix) into the top. It is also extremely loud, but that's to be expected. Overall, it works well for what I bought it for.

I bought my Oster Classic Beehive blender in 1985. After 25 years of great service, she's still truckin'! So, why now am I writing a review? While ordering a replacement glass blender jar through Amazon, I was pleased (but not surprised) to read all the (mostly) positive reviews about the Classic. The complaints about how loud it is are accurate. But that's because it has a 500 watt motor, which is precisely why I bought this blender over two decades ago and why it's been so durable. I've never had a situation where the Classic has not been up to whatever blending task I've had to perform. There may be as good or even better blenders available today, but as for me: if it ain't broke, don't replace it!

Even with the lid tightly closed and my hand holding it down, the soup ran all over the counter

Could be improved with a low setting.

If the smoothie is too thick, the blender will dance around in a circle twisting the cord around it.

Must be used with hand holding down the lid.

Does make good smoothies.

Love this blender. Works great, simple, one speed blender. But beware it is loud.

Other than that I would recommend it. Why how often do you really use the various speeds on other blenders? If your like me, I always go for the high speed anyway. Nice glass container. Simply a classic!

Mine came with the lid and works great. I'm so glad I was able to find this -- the local stores told me replacements weren't available and tried to sell me a $100 Cuisinart new blender. I expect to have many years of use out of this blender pitcher/jar. My mother's Oster blender outlasted her need for it. Just don't grind spices or anything too hard in it or it will scratch and be ugly forever but still work just fine.

This blender jar is lightweight and has an extra cup of volume compared with the glass one that it's replacing. I love it!

One thing, though, is that the picture doesn't reflect the actual product - it's just the jar, no cover is included. For me, that wasn't a problem because I still have the top from the glass jar it's replacing. But if you're in the market for a jar with a top, you'll have to buy the top separately.

"Jar developed a thin crack line in a few months" 2010-07-29

Only after a few months the glass jar developed a thin crack line. I called the services line but was told the jar is not covered by the 1 year warranty. This never happened to me with other brands. I guess it's time to me saying good bye to all Oster products.

After reading mostly positive reviews I thought I would give this blender a try. Very quickly the sealing ring was shredded which other reviewers had mentioned happened to them as well. Now the plastic base is now cracked once again rendering the blender useless. In six months time, with limited use I wouldn't expect this poor quality from a blender that isn't cheap. I also don't like how the glass pitcher doesn't attached securely to the base. It will turn when the blender is on. You have to hold it in place. This one is being returned and I am trying a new blender.

The blender is very good. However, it is not the one I ordered. I ordered the designer series, and they sent me the classic one. I did not return it because did not want to go throught the trouble. The classic works fine, but it is not that good if you plan to use it with frozen things, like frozen corn. For everyday blending it does a good job.

I have been making smoothies with this blender for about a month now and I make around 3-4 smoothies a week. It is great! The bottom part is heavy and durable and the top glass part is very sturdy. My frozen fruit and ice smoothies are very smooth and delicious. I don't have any complaints yet!

I was looking for a blender with a lot of power and no hard to clean nooks and crannies. This blender serves my needs very well. I use it for green smoothies and frozen drinks. The Oster ice crusher blade is excellent at crushing ice and frozen fruit. The motor is extremely powerful, the smooth chrome body and sturdy glass jar are easy to clean. I am not worried about any electronics failing, because it has one simple toggle switch. I consider this machine a very good value.

Sorry Vita-mix, I won't be spending $500 just to make green smoothies : )

This blender does a fantastic job in blending drinks with ice. When done, the drink has no trace of ice. Although at first I was hesitant to buy it because the design is too bulky for my kitchen, which is contemporary, the positive reviews that I read about Oster products made me go for it. Performance, as well as the price were the decisive factors. I would highly recommend it.

I've been using this blender for about 4 months now for frozen fruit and vodka drinks every morning before work. The blade got slightly bent out of shape but it still works well.

Even my mute neighbor with the mongoloid child can operate this thing without a fuss... and believe me, that guy is not too bright. I lent him a weed whacker once and I come home to find 3 of my chickens got welts all over their ankles because we share a half-acre and he thought he was doing me a favor by whacking my edge. Those birds didn't crap straight for a month.

The blender's speeds don't really matter to me. I usually just crank it up and let it rock for a couple minutes.

And HEY! You can use a regular Mason jar as the receptacle which is great for me because I used to sell bibles

I kept going over reviews on different blenders in the $30-$50 price range and this one seemed to have the best reviews. In a nutshell... it was delivered at 5:30, I tried it, got a return authorization and 5:45 and it's going back to tomorrow!!! I was blending a concoction of honey and a few other ingredients... nothing solid, just wanted to blend this a little more and within seconds the whole unit started smoking. That's it, next!

My blender was giving me fits. It was not responding to my foot stomping so it was relegated to the toss or donate pile. Then I saw this little gizmo on Amazon and thought to myself: "self, what about this?" Right out of the box, and after the first use, I realized that I had made a smart purchase--I no longer needed to replace my blender. Since Summer is here and it is an important time for blended drinks, this is a very good thing.

Your blender motor may be just fine. It may be that the existing blender blade has been stripped from over-use. This gizmo falls into the "sucha deal" column. And, yes, it does deserve 5 stars.

The Oster Blender Blade Assembly I received started to to show some corrosion /oxidization -right ater the first day- at he top of the axle where it was probably hammered together instead of pressing it together. That part of the blade assembly is where the food is being blended and obviously this oxidization shows that the part used is of inferior quality and may further interact with food that enhances oxidization and interact with taste. The old part which started to leak after 4 years of use had no corrosion at all. They must have used the right steel material not just some steel covered low grade iron. I hope the manufacturer gets this message and they will upgrade to a better metal.

I just bought this blender last week and have made about 5 smoothies with it. For smoothies, I use frozen fruit, protein powder and rice milk. I let the frozen fruit sit in the rice milk for 5 minutes to start thawing out the fruit. Still, this POS blender cannot chop the fruit. The motor revs and revs and you can smell the little motor toiling away. Only the fruit at the very very bottom gets blended. I have to stop and stir and blend again. I wonder how long this motor will last as it strain to the verge of overheating.

I thought that $300 for a high quality blender was too much. I thought that if this one wore out and broke after a year, I would just buy another. That was a good theory provided that the blender could easily make a smoothie. I guess this would be good for soups but I am not even going to go there. I am going to return this ASAP.

If you do a lot of cooking or expect to blend ice or frozen fruit, keep looking for another blender. Trust me.

Great blender. I used to make smoothies with it all the time until we moved to France and had to sell it (volt converter costs as much as the blender itself...) Chops frozen fruit real well too. Try plain yoghurt + frozen raspberries + canned peaches + ice cubes + honey for a healthy but tasty snack!

"Works Well But Flimsy" 2010-08-11

I've had this blender for a couple of years. When I first received it as a gift I honestly thought it wouldn't work because the jar does not fix securely in place. But, it worked and it has been working great until I decided to put some hot liquid into it and I was holding the flimsy top with a pot holder when all of the sudden the filler cap falls into the blender and grinds up with every thing else. So, much for what I was blending, but now I can't use the stupid thing because I no longer have a lid with a cap. I wouldn't waste your money on this - buy something sturdier!!

I've been limping along with this blender for a few months now. As others have noted, the jar doesn't lock to the base, which is more than annoying--though if I hold it there, it doesn't feel unsafe.
That said, while washing dishes today the jar (empty, disassembled) was gently knocked to the floor from the countertop--a distance of no more than 3.5 feet. Something about the way the jar hit the floor made it shatter into three pieces. The handle came completely off, leaving a jagged hole down the side of the plastic jar. I would think you'd need to smash the thing against the floor (or with hammer) for it to break like this. What's the point of plastic otherwise?

This blender has a pre-programmed setting for frozen drinks that is amazing! It automatically reverses the direction of the blades in the beginning of the program which mixes the ice and liquids together so that the ice can be crushed in the speed phase of the program. If you want to make your own frozen drinks without spending $400 for a professional blender give this a try. The one thing I have noticed is that it requires about 6 oz of liquid to get going properly. If you are not successful in the beginning try adding your ice in two batches and see what happens. I bought this for specifically this purpose and could not be happier. It's a great value and no more ice blocks in my frozen protein shakes!!!

I purchased this blender after looking around awhile at various brands. My Cuisinart crapped out on me - I had to beat it on the base to get it to blend - the lights stopped working. So, time for a new blender. This Oster is awesome! You won't be disappointed. It blends frozen drinks (smoothies) fruit and whatnot so well. It doesn't leave chunks in your smoothie. I love the auto settings; it blends it just enough. For the price, this thing rocks!

I've only had this blender for about 5 days but I am very impressed. I like how it has an all-metal drive. The main reason we bought the blender was to make smoothies, malts and mixed drinks. We have made the later two so far and I'm extremely impressed with how it pulverizes the ice. I also like how there is a frozen drink setting that does everything including reversing the blades. We bought the additional milkshake blade and I am extremely impressed with that as well. I don't know about durability since I just got it but it seems to be really well made. It is fairly loud when blending ice. I expected this though so I wouldn't consider that a downside. I would recommend this to anyone. By far the best blender I have had.

We had read good reviews of this product and purchased it based on those reviews. Powerful, but quiet. They were on the money! It is very quiet and powerful, except for the highest speed. It works good for blending drinks, but really good when preparing veggies for soup etc. No regrets-excellent performance.

I revently bought an Oster Blender to replace the one I had for over 10 years. After one use, the wall of the blender jar base split. I noticed that the wall of the base was much thinner than the old one I had. Looking at the picture of the replacemnt part, it appeared to me to have a much thicker wall than the one that split, so I ordered it. Regretably, the base that I received has the same thin wall as the one that split. I suspect that it won't last. The picture is deceiving and the price for a replacement is outrageous given it's poor quality.

Bought this blender new. Used it about 12 times before the motor burned up. I know its an inexpensive blender but it should have been

good for at least a couple of hundred runs. Motor probably made in China using the cheapest pot metal for motor casing and hair thick

copper wiring for binding and brushes. Good as a very cheap (Suzie Homemaker) blender if you are in a pinch and need a throw away unit or

I bought this blender 5 days ago, used it 3 times and it broke! NEVER again will I buy CHEAP home appliances. I don't like how the jar is plastic, it absorbs the smell of whatever you blend in it. YUCK. The metal part of the base that u put the bottom part of the jar on to blend, ground down so much that left shards of metal behind, and now it doesn't work to blend or grind ANYTHING! Because of this I had to throw out the fresh fruit I just bought. I'm going to go with a more costly brand and research this time before buying it.

I have bought over 20 of these blenders over the past 10 years or so to make salad dressing in my restaurant. They all lasted about a year under daily heavy use, which I was really happy with. Oster has now replaced the bottom screw cap of the jar with the flimsiest piece of plastic I have ever seen. I could literally break it into pieces with one hand. I broke the first one within two days. I got another blender locally just to get the bottom cap of the jar and it broke within one hour! I was in a real jam that day because we were open and there were customers flooding in the door, so I bought a third one at the local drug store and it broke too! This product is junk unless they switch back to a stronger cap. I hope they're happy with the 5 cents they save on each blender with the new parts.

The item that I received s NOT what I ordered. Do NOT order this product! It is not clear, hard plastic. Instead it is a milky white soft plastic that imparts a bad taste to your shake. I am very disappointed in this item and seller. I was expecting to receive the clear blend-n-go cup with the straw, which is what I ordered based on the picture on Amazon. The seller substited a cheap frosted plastic version. Definitely NOT worth the $19.46 selling price. A big waste of time!

11/16/09 I'm updating my original update... the cup is easy eough to use, but the lid design is terrible. If you plan to use this "on the go" you'll need a straw to put through the drink-spout. If you try to tip the cup to drink out of the spout, the lid will rest against your nose/eyes. Not comfortable and definitely NOT good to use while driving! So I'm down-grading to one star.

"A great blender at a bargain..." 2010-05-04

I bought this 12-speed Oster to replace the no-name "smoothie maker" I'd been using previously. That machine was often unable to make short work of frozen fruit and ice cubes. I used it infrequently because of its poor performance and eventually gave up and threw it away. When I decided I didn't want to live smoothie-free, I knew that I had to find another blender. I wanted one that could whip ice and frozen fruit (along with various and sundry liquids and protein powders) into a smooth drink. I knew I didn't want to pay hundreds of dollars for the privilege. Enter the Oster 12-speed blender.

I have to admit I was actually suspicious of this blender's quality BECAUSE of it's reasonable cost. The other blenders I was researching cost upwards of $100.00. I bought it anyway and began blending away. It whipped my protein powder and skim milk into a thick, frothy shake. I changed the setting to the highest- "ice crush" and with some trepidation, dropped in several ice cubes in quick succession. The motor and blades didn't hesitate. They chopped up the ice and whipped it into smoothie nirvana. I was thrilled to find that there were no annoying little chunks of ice left as I poured my drink out of the generous 12-cup (more room for your drink to blend) pitcher. I added fresh and frozen fruit and they were blended right in.

I can't say that this blender does other things equally as well because I actually only use it to make drinks. However, I use it every day in what's probably the most taxing way one could use a blender (chopping ice, blending fruit) and it shows no signs of wear. It blends as well today as the first time I used it, without changing tone, smoking, grinding, etc. It IS very loud- but I don't mind. I don't expect silence from something that's supposed to crush ice.

The only problem I've ever had with this blender- and it's a minor one- is that the buttons are very touchy if they aren't depressed completely. I used my blender to make a smoothie for lunch one day and then went back to work. I returned home at roughly six pm to my blender whirring away at top speed. I'd left it plugged in and thought perhaps a power surge had caused it to start up. Resolving to unplug it when not in use in the future, I shrugged it off until it happened again when I was right next to it, and had just finished using it. I'd made my drink and then not pressed the "off" button in firmly enough- it popped out on it's own and the blender started up again.

Since then I've been careful to make sure the blender is unplugged and the "off" button is down all the way and haven't had a problem. On the other hand, I thought that having it running for hours unattended might have worn the motor down (since it's normally used for less than 10 seconds at a time)but it still performs like new. I don't expect this blender to wear out in the foreseeable future, but if it does, I would buy the same one again.

I have been searching for an affordable blender with a glass jar for quite some time now. I bought this one a few weeks ago, and I've been blending things like crazy. The things I love about it are the stainless steel color that matches my appliances, the powerful blending capabilites, the jar is glass not plastic and a good amount of blending options (not just pulse and off like the other cheap blenders!). It hasn't let me down yet, i am fully satisfied with this and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Buyer beware, the base cap on this blender will start to crack with limited use. The problem is they use such thin cheap plastic for the base cap and the glass jar is so heavy that the base cap will begin to crack with very little use (screwing it on and off to wash, blending, and placing it down on your counter) making the entire unit an earth contaminating piece of junk. Don't waste your money on this thing unless you can get your hands on a few replacement base caps, otherwise buy something else, preferably a blender without this type of design.

only used the blender twice to make smoothies. the second time there was a metallic sound and it quit working. i could hear something rattling around inside it so after turning it over and noticing that only two screws held it together, i removed the screws, pulled it gently apart and found that the nut had come off of the motor shaft. i screwed it back on tightly and now the blender works again. fairly simple repair, but still shouldn"t have had to be done.

I tried to make a green smoothie right after buying this unit at Target. The blades and container shape seemed to make a perfect vortex. However, the motor was obviously not up to the task of grinding raw vegetables and fruits, as it started smoking and completely died. Smelled horrible, too. Guess I have to spend $400 on a Vita-mix or something. Obviously these cheap blenders don't possess the power necessary for my lifestyle.

I have never reviewed a product before. This blender is good enough to deserve my time.

Oster blenders are superior to begin with because most bases, including the Fusion, take a standard Mason jar lip. This allows the tremendous flexibility of buying a variety of sizes of jars (some spaghetti sauce jars work), filling them almost full (leave a little air), screwing on the blade and base, turning them upside down, and blending away. You don't have the problems several other reviewers mention of contents splashing up against the sides or of the air pocket forming at the bottom. If things are not mixing right, you just remove the jar, turn it rightside up, and either shake or, if that doesn't work, take the base/lid off and fix the problem. When you are done, no cleaning the big bowl; blend in the thing you want to drink out of. You can also, with half-pint Mason jars, grind up nuts and coconut and seeds and such. Buy a dozen Mason jars for cheap, make several batches of smoothies (or whatever) and freeze as you go.

I still plan to buy some Mason jars with handles!

I had my old Oster for a number of years, and it chugged along OK, with a little smell of plastic if I pushed it too hard. When it finally bit the dust I sprung for the Fusion.

The Fusion is worlds better. It has enough power to make smoothies fast that would stall my lower-powered Oster. The reversing blade substantially reduces the problem of fibers (esp. pineapple) getting stuck on the blade, which can kill the "cutting power." The Fusion six-point blade (not just more points, but more and more varied angles) also does a better job cutting things up and staying clear than the 4-point ice-cutting blade. So far I haven't felt I was "pushing" the Fusion's limit, even though I'm making thick frozen-fruit "green" smoothies.

Yes, it is loud. It is, however, not substantially louder than my old Oster, which made "laboring" noises the Fusion doesn't.

I have only had it six weeks, but am using it so much that it is now my number one kitchen item after the fridge and microwave.

My husband bought this as a combo food processor/ blender.

It does not do a good job at either task. It will blend smoothies and milkshakes, but most everything else gets caught in the blades, so only the food very close to the blades gets blended. 90% of the container never blends. So then you have to stick a spatula or knife to depress the food, which is mighty dangerous.

Cleaning is a HUGE hassle.

For blending, now I use my kitchenaid immersion blender. And I am on the hunt for a proper food processor.

I admit I have not had this long, but I have put it to the test. I have "burned up" 4 blenders in 7 years. The last one was a 500 watt Black and Decker that I only had about a year. I decided I finally had enough and it was time to put money into one of those expensive, mega-power ones (vitamix, k-tec)....until I saw some side by side comparison tests on youtube. Go look. I watched a KithenAid outdo some high end...well...look for yourself. Maybe you can save your money.

I disagree with the reviewers who have complained of the noise. It is a 600 watt blender. You can expect that the more powerful the blender, the noisier it will be. Still, I did not think the noise level was bad at all! Neither did my family.

I prepare raw foods, so I need something more powerful. I saw this at WalMart (I know, but I was desperate)and was surprised to find a 600 watt blender there. After all, I had just left Ollies and Lowes and all they had was a 500 watt or less. I make lots of almond milk and a consistent problem I noticed (during my 15 years of making it) was incomplete grinding of the nuts. That does not happen with this blender. Another problem I've had consistently...frozen banana chunks that somehow escaped the blade when making my almond-banana milk shakes. How in the world??? Not a problem anymore. Big bits of soaked date still in there...not any more! I have chopped onions coarsely, ground sunflower seeds, made pate', blended raw green soup with whole collard greens (perfectly smooth, too!) and lots of milk and shakes. I could not be more impressed!

I think that the difference between this blender and ALL others is the blade. Be careful..it's really sharp! And I think that Oster could give every other blender out there a run for it's money. Yes, really. It's multi-functional with it's pre-programmed Food Chopping and Frozen Drink settings. Just push a button and it does the rest...and stops when it's done! Still has slow to fast blending and pulsing. It's effective. It's low cost (got mine for about $56). I like that the blender jar is glass. And get this, Oster is soon coming out with a 700 watt blender. Wish my old one had made it a little longer!

I cannot attest to the longevity of the blender..yet. I will come back and update though. No problems yet and I am completely impressed so far. I have not tried to grind any grains with it.

It's one heck of a blender for the money!

This jar fit my blender perfectly, but the shipping cost half the cost of the jar itself. And with it coming through a vendor, there was no way to include it in a "super saver order".

This is a Glass Jar that replaces exactly the original Oster jar. It comes with a round mouth, handle, and compound lid. Its large diameter on top and small on bottom

is not for beauty. Its functional 100%. Everything gets blended in a continuous swirl with no chance of "Not Moving" food due to internal vertical ribs integrated into the glass. The only problem with this glass jar is that is prone to brake. A better review than the glass jar would be given to a Stainless Steel Jar if such a thing exists.

Oster was the go-to brand for me, so I purchased the 6608 to make smoothies. After two uses, the black plastic screw-on base decided to start chipping off around the drive gear. The terrible odor of hot plastic caught my attention, so I lifted the blender jar to find black plastic shreds on the base. Not wanting to spend $100+ for a blender AND wanting a metal drive motor, I even-exchanged it at the store for the same model. Time will tell if this one holds up. Shoulda kept my old harvest gold Oster I sold at a garage sale a few years back!

After about 20 uses, the plastic bottom cap broke. Unfortunately, it broke off when the blender was full of hot onion cream that it took me an hour to make. So I almost killed myself and had to clean the kitchen for half hour. Nice, huh? It's a pity because everything else seems high quality, engine, blades, glass cup etc.. Really a pity.

Once-upon-a-time, Oster blenders were a quality appliance. No more. I purchased my blender 4 months ago and have gone through two of the black plastic bottom caps (hold the blade and gasket to glass jar.) They are CHEAP. I'm a careful user, but the cap cracks and will no longer hold the jar. Oster gives me the run-around each time I contact them and won't replace. (The last part I had to pay for myself.) Jarden currently owns Oster, Sunbeam, Mr. Coffee, Crockpot and other brands. (see [...]) I've gotten the same negligent responses regarding disintigration of the plastic parts on one of their Crockpots. I will no longer buy any Jarden product for myself or anyone else and check their website to be sure I'm avoiding them. I won't give them another chance to steal our hard-earned money.

I've owned blenders for decades. I started with Waring but tired of their motors burning out and bought an Osterizer 10 speed with glass container some 25 years ago. That blender finally died this week, the motor burning out (what a smell!). Now, it was only 120 watts, so I suppose I was fortunate it lasted for around 25 years considering the punishment it got -- I often made peanut butter in it from oven roasted peanuts, and it died making peanut butter!

Soon after buying my 10 speed Osterizer, I bought an Oster food processor attachment for it for $10 at a local store, and I've used that exclusively for grinding meat. It does a very nice job. So, in replacing my burned out 10 speed I figured I'd get another Osterizer so I can continue to use this food processor as well as the two glass containers I have (I picked up an extra somewhere). I was pleased to discover that the present Osterizer line accommodates the old containers, etc.
Yesterday I made the rounds at the local big box stores and picked up the 6694 14 speed. The glass container is wider than the ones I had already, and I figure that's a very good thing. It will be easier to scrape out peanut butter, smoothies, whatever using a plastic spatula. Now, the glass isn't as thick, so I will have to be even more careful... I have no backup wide glass container, after all. I now have two sets of blades (the new one looks identical to the old one I bought 25 years ago!). The new one is incredibly sharp, but I'm sure that some day I will need to sharpen it, like I did with the old one (which I will hang onto, of course). I have used a small fine file to sharpen the blades on occasion.

Noise! Yes, I've read a lot of reviews of the Osterizers that discuss noise. Well, I keep ear protection handy in the kitchen just for this purpose. Used to be foam plugs, but now I reach for a $2 pair of earmuffs I picked up at Harbor Freight! Works like a charm and eliminates that painful sensation of too loud noises (I use this when using power tools around the house too, or anything else that generates excessive noise).

My 6694 is white and matches all my other kitchen appliances very nicely. I considered the Beehive and some of the other high power Osterizers (the ones I saw yesterday were 600 watts!), but decided that the 450 watt 6694, which cost 1/2 as much, might actually serve me better (assuming it doesn't burn out... have my fingers crossed). It's bound to be quieter, has high and low power toggle switch and thus two pulse settings. In other words, it's more versatile than the new 600 watt Osterizers, which evidently have only one pulse setting (with the exception of an electronic version I saw yesterday, which has two). My old 10 speed had 3 separate pulse buttons. When using the food processor attachment, a variety of pulse settings is important. The 6694 is also a little shorter than the 600 watt models, one of my considerations because it has to allow my kitchen cabinet doors to swing over it. The 6694's very tallest part is at about 15 inches above the counter, which is the same height as my old 10 speed.

I'm worried about the new 14 speed, though. I've read reviews about the base breaking and inspecting I find that indeed the plastic base is relatively flimsy. It's barely if at all more than 1/2 as thick as the plastic of my old 10 speed. The 14 speed's base weighs in at 2 lb. 12 oz. while the 10 speed is 3 lb. 6 oz. And the 14 speed has a much more powerful motor, which tells you that the construction of the base has been sacrificed on the alter of skimping on materials. Well, if the new 14 speed dies a premature death I'll probably spring for a high end Osterizer, and I'll do more homework next time.

This 14 speed Oster 6694 passed its first real test, making peanut butter. It behaved pretty similar to my old 10 speed. It was about the same loudness. I measured the power consumption during the process. Rated at 450 watts, it actually drew about 600 watts at the highest speed and maximum load (i.e. when it was laboring with a thick sludge of semi ground peanuts). When the peanuts were somewhat better ground, the consumption dropped to around the rated 450 watts and when things were pretty smooth it dropped down to around 260 watts, all this at the highest speed.

While I only purchased this blender a month ago,the the metal to metal design has been around a long time and is proven. I actually replaced an old Avocato Oster (circa 70's) blender that worked fine with a top of the line Kitchenaid three speed that I was finally glad to throw out. I have no axe to grind with Kitchenaid and own other of their products that work fine.

I don't care what brand you buy but make sure that both the cup and the gear drive are both made of metal - metal to metal. If either is plastic, you'll be tossing it in five years or less. (Kitchenaid)

Performance: tried crushing ice with this on high speed and it worked fabulously. Tried again on the low speed with the same results. Nice smooth ice and no chips.

Also just used it to make a fine powder from soda crackers for a meatball recipe. Perfect. Nice soft powder, no chunks of crackers.

My only other comment was price. If you do not need the Brushed Nickel, save the money ($20 dollars at least) and buy a colored one.They are identical in operation and function.

I've purchased a lot of products from Amazon but not sure this one was the best price. If I had shopped around I could have found this cheaper elsewhere. To me the so called free shipping of $9 was added to the price is all.

After approx 3 years the square drive stem that comes up from the motor became rounded and will no longer drive the blender blade. We bought this blender/food processor combo last month and after about a week on the second use of the food processor, noticed that the plastic latches that hold the lid on the food processor were broken. Amazon happily replaced the appliance. However, when unpacking the new items, the bottom of the food processor mechanism came off. We've promptly returned the second blender for a refund this time. I guess we'll look for another kind/brand.

This is my 3rd blender in 2 years so I researched it a lot before I purchased this one. For the last 2, I just purchased the cheapest one. One of them had a glass jar and it broke. Having experienced that, I was determined not to buy one with a glass jar (very few available). Finally, after the second one started smoking, I looked for one that made better smoothies since it seems that's mainly what I use it for. This blender puts the other 2 to shame. My kids noticed the difference right away. NO MORE CHUNKS, just creamy, smooth smoothies. The crushed ice feature is the main reason why I bought it. Living in Florida, my kids love Hawaiian Ice in the summer. Can't wait to make that!

All the gripes people have here are legit, that this is not substitute for a food processor unless you are looking for only chopping, which was the case for me

As everyone else agrees, the blender part is great.

The "food processor" unit is excellent too for chopping only. The jar is large enough for two big onions or three medium onions (in quarter slices) at a time. But if you want slicing, grating etc. you need to buy some rare accessories that are not available on Amazon, Ebay, or even Oster website. May be you can call them to get those ... But I didn't need them and so didn't bother to. If you really want a combo that can do the job of both a blender and food processor, buy the Hamilton Beach combo.

I just read a 5-star and a 1-star review of this product and I agree totally with both. Bottom-line: don't buy this model.

I agree that the blender part is super. It makes great smoothies and crunches ice much better than my last blender.

I agree that the food processor is miserable. I too bought it assuming I could use it to grate. It nowhere said I was getting half the functions I could get with any cheap food processor. When I discovered the problem, I too bought additional parts in order to grate. They don't work on this machine. But it's not all bad. The plastic is so frail, it broke the first time I knocked it over. Now I can throw the food processor parts away and buy something that does the things I expect a food processor to do.

And another thing. I'm feel so stupid. I bought this model specifically because I figured a 2-in-1 machine would take up less space. A food processor without a base has the same size foot-print as a food processor with a base. I hope you realize how much I'm risking to write this. I have a reputation for being a pretty savvy consumer and if anyone I know reads this....

We use our blender nearly every day (smoothies, etc). Having a nice plastic carafe is wonderful! You need to be careful to insure that the base is FIRMLY attached to the carafe to avoid any mishaps, however. The base does not seal as well on the plastic carafe as it did on our previous glass one. However, the safety of not having a heavy glass carafe is well-worth the "safety check" before using!

"Don't waste your money on this blender" 2008-08-28

I purchased this blender to replace my 8 year old blender that popped a hole while crushing ice. My primary purpose for using this is to crush ice and make blended coffees. My husband didn't want me to spend too much money so after looking at this model in the store, I purchased it. Upon first use, it leaked through the bottom. I found I didn't have the base tightened all the way--something that wasn't mentioned at all in the book that came with--and after tightening, it still seemed to leak. I thought that perhaps liquid had been trapped and hoped that tightening the base would fix the problem. Alas, the second time I used it, it leaked again. I mentioned it to my husband and asked him to tighten the base, which he obligingly did. The third time, I decided to just put water in it to see if it still leaks, which it does. The only positive is my husband witnessed this firsthand and has given me the go ahead to purchase a more expensive and hopefully higher quality, better built blender. Unless this undergoes a redesign to fix the leaking problem, I say stay away!

I've had this blender for two days and unfortunately have to take it back. The buttons are hard to press, and when you need to press them the whole machine slides across the counter top. They need some suction on the base of the machine. It is extremely loud, most plastic machines are.

Mine came with a food processor attachment. I used it to grate cheese and I thought the thing was going to go flying off the base of the machine, then the counter top. It lost power while grating. Instead of wearing full body armor while cooking I think it has to go back.

I just purchased this (after returning a cuisinart after realizing that it had a plastic driver). My old Oster blender (plastic, 10-speed) lasted over 12 years (not under heavy use), so I bought another one. I like the base and it won't get discolored over time like my old white one did. The buttons are clearly labeled and feel solid. Each button has two speeds depeding on if the switch is set at low or high.

The jar is flimsier than my old one. It also has this annoying collar piece that is supposed to add stability if your jar is just sitting around on the table for a while - seems unnecessary to me. It makes it harder to take apart for cleaning and it is a very thin piece of plastic that I doubt will last well.

The blending power is good - my old blender was only 375 watt and this is 450 watt, and I can tell the difference. Overall I am confident about the performance and can live with the design.

I swear to God, could they "possibly" have made this any louder ?? Even on the lower speeds, this blender is extremely loud, and the sound is annoying.

I only use it to make protein shakes, and it does a great job of that, and the 12 speeds are great, but good grief, the sound. It reminds me of a leaf blower.

So, it's Friday night, and I'm doing my usual round of cooking. (We cook on Friday night--feel free to make the usual inferences.) Anway, I'm just tearing my hair out because I can't find cheap gluten free flour. The project for this evening was rice flour.

I tried a food chopper. Not nearly fine enough, not even with the help of a flour sifter. Tried my coffee grinder. Not fine enough, and forget the flour sifter--dust, everywhere, all over the kitchen, and in the coffee grinder, little rice chips.

Then, I thought, um.....well, supposedly you can grind flour in a blender.

So, I poured half a bag of rice (short grain only, darlings--it doesn't work with long grain) into the blender, and pushed "grind". Seven minutes later, "ta da", rice flour. (Use an old fashioned flour sifter, preferably after the fact, preferably outside, so you don't get flying rice chips everywhere. Also, don't try to grind more than a cup at a time. It works much better in small batches.)

It's not a whole lot of flour, though, and it's hard to sift out the bigger chips. I baked an entire loaf of bread with this--but I'm not sure it's worth the effort, once you've spent hours cleaning rice flour from your floors.

I received this blender as a wedding gift several years ago. It doesn't blend very smoothly -- to avoid lumps, I have to frequently stop blending, stir the ingredients, and start blending again. It also doesn't blend things quickly. The worst thing about this product, though, is the noise: it is ridiculously loud (the disc sander, power drill, and other power tools in my home are all quieter!). The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one is that it has lasted several years without frying completely (though this may be too generous, as I only use it rarely and the motor smells burnt when operating).

My grandmother had the same Oster blender since the 60's and it still works great. I recently bought this and was skeptical when I saw that Oster and Sunbeam or part of the same conglamourate. I stupidly threw the box and reciept out and my blender just went out in a blaze of non-glory. It was frustrating to keep poking at smoothies with a spoon so they would mix but now the whole thing just died after a month or about 5 smoothies. What's worse is I was using crushed ice instead of cubes to cut down on the work the wimpy motor needed to do anyway. Also the buttons were just for decoration I guess because it only had one speed. Save your money.

I bought this blender before checking it out, and judging by the number of one star reviews, I first thought I'd made a mistake. But then I noticed that the one star reviews were written mostly in 2004, with one in early 2005. Of the two five star reviews, one was written later on in 2005 and one in 2008. Five people seem to hate it, and two people seem to love it. Nobody in the middle, and no reviews written in 2006 and 2007.

I'm posting this only to point out that the newer models might be much improved over the blenders manufactured more than five years ago. I gave it the benefit of the doubt with four stars, but will update my review if it turns out that those one star reviewers were closer to the mark. The bottom line is, I think purchasing any of these lower-end blenders is pretty much a crap shoot. You either spend the big bucks for a Vitamix, or you hope one of these $30 to $100 machines serves your needs for a few years.

We had a luau party for my daughter's birthday party and made tropical drinks for everyone. This blender made smooth, blended drinks and crushed the ice very fast. It also kept up to the hectic pace since we had lots of people to make them for. My last Oster blender is still working and it's 20+ years old, it just doesn't crush ice as well. I would definitely recommend these blenders for their speed and durability.

I plan to return this blender immediately, the first time I used it, it completely leaked all over the counter creating a huge mess, I had two friends including a computer scientist attempt to use this blender and they also had significant leakage from the bottom. OK... my daughter is handicapped and must have pureed foods daily. We had an Oster In2itive, and it broke after a year of GOOD use.... the motor just gave up. So, we bought this one after not being able to find the In2itive, and after 2 uses, IT IS BROKEN! It just stopped working, and started smoking everywhere. Too bad I didn't save the receipt or box. A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY!!

I bought it because of it's nice design and high tech features. I also liked the metal housing, so I bought it. First issue was a leaking jar, received a new one from oster and it leaked too. Bought the glass jar, it worked good until all the plastic tabs on the bottom broke off and the unit thought that the jar was not on top of the blender. Then after a year the cog broke while making ice cream shakes. I have thrown it in the trash and will buy a cheap blender next time. Oster should have gone back to their old roots and built a sturdier machine for what they charge.

I've read the other reviews and I haven't experienced any of these problems. I purchased this blender when it first came out on the market in 2002 and I still use it frequently. The best feature is by far the ice chopping capabilities. The recipes are great and it would've been nice if there were quite a few more recipes or a way to add additional recipes into the blender. However, I have substituted ingredients or made my own variations to the recipes and they still come out great!

I highly recommend this blender and I am purchasing a second one for my mother as she absolutely loves it as well.

The blender would be great if not for the many issues.

LCD screen does not turn on the 1st time. I had the blender replaced, and the second one had the same issue. Also, the cog that sticks out of the base broke free from the base. I was only chopping ice. Not a good product.

"Quickly shreds ice. After that it's not so great." 2010-08-12

I purchased this blender because my prior one couldn't handle ice cubes. This one does a superb job on ice cubes. It has a sharp stainless steel blade and a pulse "ice crush" button. The sturdy glass jar cleans easily and ice doesn't scratch it. The next step is to add the other ingredients and finish the frozen drink. That is where it flops. It just cant properly blend the thick icy smoothie that I like. It either blends the bottom half of the mixture leaving the top half stagnant, or else it starts out churning the whole mixture but soon sucks air into the blade, leaving the blade racing and doing nothing. I get around the problem using a complicated routine. Making the smoothie is just too tedious.

Here is what I do to make my smoothie with this blender: I blend a fresh banana to add some liquid to the crushed ice. Then I manually stir in the frozen fruit (blender off) and run increasing speeds until it turns over the whole mixture. Each time the mixture stops moving, I manually stir (blender off)to release the air and restart. Then I add the dry ingredients and repeat, run stop and stir, run stop and stir, until the dry part is chopped fine and blended. Even with fourteen speeds, I can't find a setting that works for more than a few seconds.

I've had this blender for several months. It does a great job crushing ice, which is what left my cheeeapy Hamilton Beach blender smoking (literally!) I like that the heavy glass jar won't jump off the base, although that same weight does make it hard for a person without much hand strength to lift with one hand or to hold for very long. I'm very satisfied with the power of the motor and the durability. For the price, it's great.

This was a great value to get all of these pieces for such a low price. You for sure save money than if you would buy them individually. I can only give 4 stars because the blender top/lid did not fit my Osterizer classic blender correctly. It was too big, I could actually pull it around the entire top instead of sitting it on the inside like it is supposed to fit. I didn't need the lid so it wasn't a huge deal to me and I got it free anyway with such a great bundle price but it would have been nice to have an extra. All of the other parts fit great.

I use my Oster blender to make a fruit shake almost every day. I've tried the round jars and I've tried the plastic cloverleaf jars. The round ones don't mix as well as the cloverleaf and the plastic jars crack and don't hold up as well as the glass. As long as Oster continues to make quality blenders I'll continue to use these jars.

Needed replacement of glass jar for old, slightly warped clover-top Oster blender. This replacement works great, fits very snugly at the top, and screws tight at the bottom. Product was new, clean, and packaged well. The only minor gripe I have is that the base doesn't quite fit perfectly so it's a bit tight and minimally tilted. This does not affect it's function at all.

I have needed one of these for awhile since my cat found mine as it was drying and thought it was a toy. I've had three of these sitting in my cart for over a month now. I needed to buy something else from Amazon, so I decided today was the day that I FINALLY ordered them.

Everything in my cart besides these was eligible and qualified for SUPER SAVER SHIPPING. And how much did they want in shipping costs? Close to 15 dollars. FIFTEEN DOLLARS for 3 rubber rings. No thank you, I am taking my business elsewhere and have already found them, two for 5 dollars (including shipping), on ebay.

The items are perfect, but the vendor is less so..

We ordered these items through Amazon.com on 19 July, 2009, which indicated a shipping date of 20-23 July, 2009. I paid the full shipping, but heard nothing from either Amazon.com nor the 3rd party vendor, Denny and Kathys Ace Hardware until an email from Denny and Kathys Ace Hardware arrived on 24 July, 2009, stating a shipping date of 24 July, 2009. Shipping was via USPS, and the one package with all items arrived on Monday, 27 July, 2009.

A call to Denny and Kathys Ace Hardware resulted in a statement that it would be sent out on 23 July, 2009. In reality, and according to their email, they did not send it until the next day. No thanks for the order or explanation for the seeming delay.

I realize that the arrival date is within Denny and Kathys Ace Hardware estimate, but that is not what Amazon.com advertized as shipping and arrival times prior to my order.

We shall never order from this vendor again, either directly or via Amazon.com, and I give them the lowest possible score.

As noted, the rings work well, it is the vendor that failed.

Indeed, I received what I asked for, and even though the shipping fee was as much as the cost of the sealing rings, I agreed to pay so I cannot complain about that. The problem was that it took forever to receive it. I ordered on dec 28 and was expected to receive the rings no later than January 7. On the 8th, I contacted the seller and had to do it again because they did not respond right away. Three days later, they contacted me, apologized, and told me they would resend the sealing rings. About a week later, I finally got them.

Works much better than the traditional blade for milkshakes. Best on a lower speed where blending is consistent. Did not pulverize chocolate chips that were in the ice cream--a good thing! Does not include a seal, so you must use the same one as for your regular blade or a new one if you have extras.

I bought this via one of the "Warehouse Deals". It was listed as in factory packaging and new condition. It is obviously a "second" since the bearing is sticky and does not rotate smoothly. I tried to run it with the blender filled with water for a few cycles to loosen it up but it did not improve.

I have had this blender for a while and it has been used so many times for all sorts of things. The food processor could have been improved with a slicing blade but other than that, it chops, grinds, and grates beautifully. I have even made dough. The only problem I can see so far is it could have been a bit bigger. I used the processor to mix chopmeat for meatballs and could only do about 1/2 pound at a time. Although it it did do a great job.

The picture looked like my old one, but the description was different and I didn't catch the differences. These jars come with "clover" lids and square lids. The jars are different and lids not interchangable. Square jars are not flaired out at the top such as the picture represents. A more updated picture should be used.

We have owned our oster blender for years. My kids had taken to making smoothies every morning for breakfast. When it no longer functioned because the pin that comes out of the base was stripped on the sides, they were devestated. (A bit drastic I know, but they are kids.) I started researching blenders but could not decide on a new one. Instead I found that, through Amazon, we could get a simple piece to fix it. It was very inexpensive, came quickly and now our blender works like new again. We have two jars for this bender and I am thrilled that it is use instead of in a landfill. And all for a few dollars. These are not Genuine Oster made parts. I made the mistake of ordering 2. The blades are ice repellant. They won't crush ice very well at all. The seller's return policy requires their receipt that was sent with the product. I tossed that before ever testing the blades. Live and learn. I just received genuine Oster blades from another vendor on Amazon and they work perfectly.

I feel like the blender isn't working quite as well as it used to with this blade. I'm wondering if maybe I should have gotten the ice crusher blade instead. This blade is still fine, though. Certainly beats buying a whole new blender! My blender is four years old, and this is the second time I've had to replace the blade. If one day your blender will turn on but the blade doesn't move at all, that's when it's time to replace the blade!

It's been 4 weeks and no problems at all. This (appears) to be a highly quality, OEM product just as described. Does a great job standard blending and ice crushing (as it should). Highly recommended to others. Note: when cleaning blender, be careful because the blades do point upward more than the non-ice crusher original. You'll know what I mean after you point yourself in the finger, but only takes once to learn.

Difficult to get the right jar from this site. It looks like the narrow top blender jar from the Oster Professional series, but it's not. It's the wide one. I think the photo is wrong. Not economical to pay to send it back, so I'm stuck, and don't have a top for it. The vendor offered to sell me one. Forget that, I say (cleaning it up for Amazon). I thought they should throw it in because the photo is misleading. I'd rather drive 30 miles to get the right top in the next city.

We got it from a friend as a house-warming gift. We thought it was given at a perfect time since our baby girl was on the way. Yes, it smelt like smoke every single time it was used. We probably used it 5 days a week, once a day to puree our baby girl's food. And it lasted 6 months! Today is the day it died. We urgently need a new blender, that's why we saw and read this comment. The writer is absolutely correct. DON't BUY IT! IT'S NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY!

This blender is absbolutely horrible. Save your money! It is inexpensive but you get what you pay for. We bought one, which smelled like smoke the first time we used it. It failed totally within a week after that. They have great customer service and did send us a replacement right away, but the replacement, too, smelled like smoke the first time we used it. It lasted a little bit longer but met the same demise as the first one within a few months of occasional use.

I'm in the market for a new blender. I wanted something powerful enough to pulverize ice. Also, I wanted something I wouldn't have to turn off, stir, then turn back on to get the ice crushed and the smoothie, well, smooth.

This blender did not pulverize the ice, and after some constant on/off stirring, the smoothie finally got liquidized. However, the top remains did not get sucked to the bottom of the blender.

Honestly, I only used it for the one smoothie and I plan on returning it today. It may be great for other things, but for smoothies it is not.

I was a little skeptical when the package arrived. This was a Christmas gift for my daughter. But you can't judge a book by it's cover. The packaging, though tattered and aged, held inside a gorgeous, sleek looking Oster that I knew would look fabulous on her counter. Love the stainless steel! The glass jar was sparkling!
The Oster 6812 makes the best milk shakes, malts, margaritas, all frozen drinks turn out high quality. The ice crushes up nicely and it actually is pretty quiet while it operates.

It is a great product! Yes, would buy again.

The first dish I attempted to make was a salsa, for which the recipe was provided in the Oster Manual. I was very disappointed at the consistency. Quartered, small tomatoes and small onions were left at practically the same size after much processing. The pieces that DID get processed were blended into a mushy, wet mess rather than chopped. For the second attempt my husband and I made smoothies. The machine was INCREDIBLY loud. It even shook in place on our counter top. The results of the smoothie were mediocre. The consistency was just fine, but the Oster did no better and no faster of a job than a $20 blender could have provided. The "dual" ability of this appliance is very poor. It's a blender - a very loud one, not a food processor. I'm returning it.

I've owned this contraption about a year now. It's been collecting dust mostly, but have recently gained interest in it again. So, the last few mornings have involved making basic smoothies, no ice involved, only frozen fruits. It would work for about a minute or two, then it just quits stirring. There are still chunks of stuff in there. I wouldn't recommend this considering the cost of it for a blender that doesn't live up to its expectations.

i bought this after finding it as a Consumer Reports "Best Buy". I have been very pleased.

It is very sturdy, and the glass mixer is very thick (my Hamilton Beach used cheap plastic which finally cracked, thus the need for a new blender). It chops ice and food without any problem. I use it every day for fruit smoothies (ice, nuts, almond milk and fruit) and it has done a flawless job. I especially love the SMOOTHIE button, which you push once and it runs through a preset program of turning the blades in one direction, then the other, and so on, at different speeds then shuts itself off after about 30 seconds of mixing. It makes a perfect smoothie every time. I purchased the milk shake blade which is great for mixing powdered protein shakes where a sharp blade is not desirable. Also flawless mixing.

After three months, I cannot find a problem. If you buy it, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Plus, it is very reasonably priced for what it does. Clean up is very simple as well.

I've had this blender now for several months. Gives a great blend for the money, much better than other lower priced blenders I have tried. It is still not as good as the Bosch it is replacing but I can't afford to replace the parts for that one. My main concern is that it is very noisy on the highest speed. Although I often use the medium speed and just leave it to blend for a longer time in order to save my ears. Overall it is a good little blender!

Comes with a food processor which is fantastic but you have to purchase the attachments for the food processor separately so really it's not like you're getting much since you can't really use it as a "food processor" until you get the nifty add ons. The blender has a sleek design.

The buttons feel like they're going to give after a few months but it works really well. I can't really down it for the way it "seems" so I think it's an excellent blender thus far.

I used it to blend ice, puree squash, and both things turned out really well!

I think this is a great blender, crushes ice to make the perfect smoothies. I read some other review saying something abotu the bottom leaking. The bottom can be taken off and screwed back on to prevent any leaking. I haven't tried the food processor yet but the blender itself is worth the money.

As always Amazon delivered my purchase in a timely manner and it arrived in good condition.

I decided on this blender after first checking with Consumer Reports magazine and then reading the reviews on Amazon.com.

I am not disappointed with the blender; it is everything that is advertised including the noise level. Some of the reasons that I purchased this one are, it has a glass container (I am getting away from plastic food containers), it has an all metal drive and minimal plastic, is less likely to break, and has only two speeds (less gadgetry).

It performs well on fruit smoothies (I throw in frozen fruit), veggie smoothies, and hummus, it is simple to use and cleans up easily.

Because it is so noisy, I also bought a Waring to replace it, same great job without damaging my hearing. I was very excited to receive this blender after reading all the reviews. However, when I received this blender, I was extremely disappointed. This is by far the loudest appliance ever! I thought something was wrong, so I double-checked to make sure everything was in place. I put in 3 cups of ice and expected they would all be crushed, that didn't happen. I had to remove the many pieces of icecubes in order to give my children the snow cones they were expecting. I will return this product!

Compared to a Hamilton-Beach blender of equal power this was more expensive. It worked well for 3 years, but then the seal on the shaft that goes into the bottom started leaking. I plan to purchase a new part to replace the damaged one because it would be more expensive to replace the blender. Pros; looks good. Adequately crushes ice. Cons: noisy, only one speed (holding the toggle up gives you another slightly different speed, but requires manually holding the toggle the whole time). Overall it seems adequate, average, functional, but not remarkable in any way.

I love this blender! I bought it at Target for $60 based solely on how it looks, and have been very pleased with the purchase for the last two weeks.

Every day I blend a frozen fruit smoothie and have experienced none of the problems that other reviewers have with the fruit processing. I have to assume that they are either not using enough liquid or perhaps aren't even blending long enough. While the machine is certainly loud (the engine is housed in metal, what did you think it was going to sound like?) it's about as loud as my KitchenAid stand mixer. In other words: yes, you might wake up people sleeping in the house, but why are you blending ice in the middle of the night, anyway?

I think another consideration is that blending takes a minor amount of skill. If you want a thick, frozen fruit smoothie, you can't just flip it on and walk away. You have to pulse for the first few blends, until all the large chunks have had a pass through, and then you might have to tap the air pocket out a few times. This is how ALL home blenders are. Only the most powerful, expensive blenders get around the tapping of the air bubble, and some of those ones can't even do it -- I know, I've used a $500 blender at work.

Like I said, for the price? This is a lovely appliance, both in function and form.

"Great blender" 2010-07-31

This blender can whip through anything as long as there's enough liquid for your smoothie...which would be true of any blender.

Be VERY careful when washing the jar if you don't remove the blades. They are VERY sharp. I've stabbed myself a few times now, and they have my utmost respect.

All in all, a great blender, I love the looks of it too.

I would have rated this blender at 5 stars had it not been for one annoying feature: when you pour the liquid product, in my case a morning protein shake, out of the glass cannister/jar, it drips down the cannister under the lip, requiring me to take the cannister apart and wash all the parts. I usually just rinse out the cannister, let it air dry and done. No matter the angle I pour from, it drips and drips and drips.....I make a full jar and so I get several glasses of shake for my family. One thing I do love is the fact that on low speed, it does NOT make the protein shake get foamy as my Hamilton Beach blender did. I also loved the 10 speed Hamilton Beach but the foam was just too much to deal with and the protein mix was not incorporated well on any speed. Not a problem with this blender. On low speed, everything is mixed, incorporated, fruit pieces broken down and a nice smooth protein shake is the wonderful result. I also like the fact that the face (controls) of the blender is smooth so no more issues cleaning between the tiny speed buttons that are on most models. It looks chic to boot. I hope it lasts a long time ! Since the glass jar is tempered, I look forward to making soup that I can pour into the jar right from the stove and process to the consistency needed. Overall a great product so far !

for the money this is an excellent mixer. compared to $200 top of the line mixers obviously would not be a fair comparison.

mixes well, unless you have to many frozen fruits you want to blend into a smoothy.

you have to stir it with a spoon and mix it around..

if you do things slower, the mixer does very well..........and has steel blades and a fairly good motor again, for the price.

I bought this blender today even after the salesmen recommended a wide bottom Cuisinart blender for smoothies. Of course I'm a stickler for technology, and I though that this blender was really cool. The salesman warned that this model wouldn't blend ice very well, but he couldn't be more wrong. I just made a smoothie on the "Frozen Drinks" setting and it came out amazing! I then tried the "Ice Crush" setting and it was amazing. I put a few ice cubes in the blender and pressed the button and the ice turned into snow in less than 30 seconds. This blender works amazing, is built solid and looks great. I definitely recommend getting this blender, it's awesome!!!

"Love it!" 2010-07-01

I bought this blender 6 years ago and have used it multiple times a week since then. It's the 500 watt model number 4094. It was pricey but well worth it. Makes perfect smoothies with frozen fruit, chops ice, powerfull, simple, classic. Love the glass receptacle as it doesn't absorb food smells and it looks great on the counter. The only negative is that it's quite loud, but I guess that's because the motor is so strong. I'm puzzled at the negative reviews...maybe there are different models that look the same and that might be why there are conflicting reviews (?)

We bought this over a year ago, and hardly ever used it for one reason: every time we've used it, the lid flies off and the entire kitchen gets terribly messy.

The first time I used it, I blended tomato soup. Soft, cooked tomatoes. How difficult could that be? The moment I hit the button, the lid flew off from the internal pressure, and I had to spend the next hour cleaning the horrible mess it left everywhere. It's as if someone dropped a bomb in the kitchen.

Next time I got smarter, and held the lid very tight. I don't recall what I blended, must've been something soft again. Little good did that do! The motor is super powerful, and since there are only two speeds, you can't build up the pressure gradually as you can with other blenders. The lid popped up again, and a lot of the liquid leaked from the top and from the cap. Auugh the mess! again!

Third time I got even wiser. I put a plastic bag on top of the jar, and pressed the lid on top of it as tight as I could. Yet again! It still leaks! With such a powerful motor, it's hard to keep the lid in place. The pressure builds and the liquid forces the lid open. The third method caused the least amount of mess, but it's still a mess nonetheless. How can they make a blender with a lid that won't stay in place?

I had other Oster blenders (the ones with many speeds) and they've worked for many years without a problem. But this fancy-schmancy-super-powerful one, is so powerful, and the lid so flimsy and poorly constructed, that it's impossible to use.

I called Oster (well after the warranty expired), and all they could offer is to have me buy a new lid, even though the rep stated they haven't changed the construction of those lids.

The jar & lid we have is square. You might fare better with cube or round ones. I haven't tried.

I make Green Smoothies every morning which consists of blending raw veggies & fruits along with wheatgrass, ice, & other things and this blender is great at turning it all into a very smooth drink. I've even put steak in the blender in order to make it chewable for my baby. I would recommend this blender to anyone.

Couldn't be more pleased. Not only is it attractive but the power is strong enough to crush ice in seconds; and it makes truly smooth smoothies with no lumps, even when I add large frozen strawberries. Great value...so much better than my old kitchenaid that cost over $100.

Blender have been around for a few decades and this is the tops for us. Oster is indeed the Classic and it has earned it place in history. How many frozen whatever have we made? Almost as many as there are revolutions of the blade but they were made perfectly with this little gem. This device has a special place in the kitchen so that it along with other "have-to-have" tools can be grabbed quickly and used.

When you have finished chopping, etc., and are ready to clean it. No problem. Quick cleanup and putup. Another way to look at it is that the cleanup is far less critical than the mixup of whatevery you are blending. It earned it spot on the shelf and for years it has held its own. It comes before the food processor or the stand mixer.

When it is time to replace it you can count on it being another Oster.
